PostHeaderIcon What are some good realistic teen romance books?

Some teen Romance Books I’ve liked are all the books by Rachel Hawthorne, Sarah Dessen, Catherine Clark, Emma Harrison, Nicholas Sparks, Simone Elkekes & Hailey Abbott.

Any suggestions? No HP, Twilight, vampire, fantasy books please. Realistic. Teen. Romance. Not adult books. I like books revolving around relationships and high school. Thanks.

Two excellent new teen romances are:

The Secret Year by Jennifer R. Hubbard

My Boyfriends’ Dogs by Dandi Daley MacKall

PostHeaderIcon What are some good romance books to read?

Okay, yes. I am a girl, and frankly, i’ve been having trouble finding new books to read. I’ve read many drama/Romance Books such as Twilight series and the Time Traveler’s Wife. Please don’t reccomend any fantasy or vampire books since i’m not a huge fan. But I am a huge fan of drama and romance, also a bit of humor.

So please reccomend!

Sappy and Heartbreaking Love

~The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks
~Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

Teen "awwwww" Love with much Hilarity

~An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
~Key to the Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson
~13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson

Fantasy-ish Love (not like vampires or anything, but involves an imaginary friend)

~Sunday’s at Tiffany’s by James Patterson

Unrequited Love with Self-discovery

~The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Teen-angsty Love with "awwwww" ending

~Two-way Street by Lauren Barnholdt
~Bloom by Elizabeth Scott

Fight for Your Life Drama with Teen Love

~The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I loved all of them and The Time Traveler’s Wife

PostHeaderIcon Books where the romance between the guy and girl is reversed?

Like the guy is the more submissive one in the relationship and the girl is more dominating. It has to be young adult. It doesn’t really need to be a romance book, it just needs to have that kind of relationship.
Just as note, I know that there are no truly defined roles for males and females when it comes to romantic relationships, but when I say the roles are reversed, I mean the ones you generally see in literature. Especially since Twilight came out.

Think of it as the opposite of Edward and Bella’s relationship.

I guess in the Mortal Instruments series Clary has this relationship with Jace, you know–even though it’s much more complicated, but if you haven’t read it–definitely check it out…like now. It’s verrry good/hilarious/sexy/spooky.

Um…also try Just Listen as well, by Sarah Desen. And I think in Forever by Judy Blume, the couple has a relationship like this too.

PostHeaderIcon Do you think that books that engage directly with contemporary conerns and issues will always involve a reader?

No

Like any other type of book it will have to be well written to involve the reader - a badly written book won’t do anything.

There is also the question of knowledge of the the issue by the reader - for example it is unlikely that most readers in USA have any real idea what life is like in the poorer areas of Iraq and Afghanistan - what they have been fed by the media is much more about the wars/reasons for it with maybe a bit about life in the larger towns/cities but absolutely nothing about life for the subsistence farmers of either country (and that is not a rant about America or the wars - it is just stating the truth - you only know what the mdeia tell you about current issues)

PostHeaderIcon Any books similiar that decribe hell in great detail like Divine Comedy?

I have enjoyed Divine Comedy by Dante and i am in the fifth level of hell: Wrath and Sloth
I love the detail and the description: In the swamp like water of river Styx, the wraithfull fight each other on the surface, and the sullen or slothful lie gurgling beneath the water.

Its very interesting and i would like some other books that describe hell in this detail.

The Twilight series. It’s like hell reading it.

PostHeaderIcon What books are essential reading for someone entering the field of psychology?

Classic books, Contemporary Books, research articles, anything that would give a good foundation in psychology.

Thanks!

If you are going to study psychology in school, you will probably get all the reading you will need. If you are studying for your own edification, I would suggest two books that I teach from.

"An introduction to the history of psychology", by B R Hergenhahn

And

"Psychology" by Robin Kowalski and Drew Westen

If you’re going to buy books on psychology try shopping at Alibris.com. They have a lot of used and hard to find books.
